As Charlie Brown Said: Aaaaaaaaargh!

Today I am in a particularly "fuck it" kind of mood. I ambled my way through the morning and as a result, I was late for work and my daughter missed the schoolbus. She cared about as much as I did, happy to run around like the miniature madwoman she is while I fumbled with my hair. Finally I got my proverbial shit together and we strolled to her school, a mere four blocks away.
About 2 blocks into our journey a few boys from the local high school fell into line with us and one of them decided to compliment me. He was quite the little flatterer and nothing if not persistant, continuing to lavish me with such gems as "Miss you are so pretty," and "Your boyfriend is so lucky," regardless of my silence. Finally after telling me that he hoped to get a girlfriend like me I couldn't help but engage the young man. I was nice since he was very polite through all of this.
"How old are you?" I asked, one eyebrow climbing high on my forehead.
"16."
"Boy, I'm twice your age. I could have been your mama if I was hot in the ass."
"I don't mind you being older than me if you don't mind me being taller than you..."
His name is Anthony. He's a junior. He likes basketball and football. I told him we could be friends as long as he didn't tell anyone what happened when I started screaming with mirth. He promised to keep it mum as long as he gets to walk with me if he happens to see me in the morning.
A deal's a deal.

I know I would've hollered at an older chick when I was 16, but I don't think I honestly would've know what to do with that. I was intimidated by more "experienced" girls my own age. Plus I realize now, the conversation wouldn't have been about nothing, there's just too many years in between.

I respect his game though.
